Rockwall’s Arterburn commits to Texas A&M

Rockwall’s Aaron Arterburn has orally committed to play football for Texas A&M.

Arterburn (6-3, 220) plays outside linebacker, slot back and tight end for the Yellow Jackets. He is expected to play linebacker and special teams in college.

Arterburn was also considering offers Texas Tech, TCU, Northwestern and Purdue before choosing A&M.

Oral commitments are non-binding. Football recruits from the Class of 2009 cannot sign national letters of intent until Feb. 4

Allen’s defense shuts down Rockwall in home opener, 24-6

Reports are sketchy at this point but In Rockwall’s first home game of the season, Allen High School’s defense proved too much for the Yellow Jackets offense as they shut down Rockwall, 24-6.

Rockwall’s lone score came on an intercepted pass, which was returned for a touchdown by an as-yet unnamed player. The Yellow Jackets came no closer to additional points than a missed field goal in the first half. In the second half, Allen’s ferocious Eagle’s defense stopped Rockwall time after time from driving for points.

Allen’s junior quarterback Matt Brown accounted for two touchdown passes, plus a 43-yard run for another TD. He also scored on a 28-yard run which was called back due to a penalty for an illegal block.

Rockwall now stands at 1-2 for the season. Allen remains undefeated.

Rowlett wins “Battle of the Bridge” by beating Rockwall, 24-16

Running back Dexter Imade rushed for 210 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half to lead Rowlett to a 24-16 win over neighboring Rockwall Sept. 4, in what had been billed as the “Battle of the Bridge.”

After rushing for 19 yards in the first half, Imade broke free for a 67-yard touchdown run that gave Rowlett (2-0) a 17-8 lead to start the third quarter. Imade later added another score with a 59-yard run.

Rockwall (1-1) came back in the fourth quarter when a 50-yard reception from Luke Wardell set up Josh Broach’s two-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Adam Dingwell ran for the two-point conversion.

With 1:48 left in the game, Rockwall had the ball on its own 23-yard line and got a first down before defensive end Nick Nanez stripped the ball from Dingwell, which defensive tackle Marcus Hawkins recovered.

Dingwell completed 14 of 24 passes for 153 yards and rushed 16 times for 39 yards. Josh Broach ran 13 times for 52 yards.

The Yellow Jackets will play their first home game of the season Sept. 12 at 7:30 pm at Rockwall vs. powerhouse Allen High School.

Rockwall’s Yellow Jackets lose Thursday night to Rowlett, 24-16

Rowlett High School took an early 7-0 lead and never fell behind as the War Eagles defeated the Rockwall Yellow Jackets 24-16 Thursday night at Rowlett.

Although Rockwall only trailed 10-8 at halftime, they could not keep pace with the talented War Eagles in the second half.

Rockwall did have one last chance to move downfield and tie the score with just over one minute left on the clock, but in Rockwall territory Rowlett jarred the ball loose from Rockwall quarterback Adam Dingwell, recovered the fumble and then ran out the clock.

Rockwall’s record now evens at 1-1, having beaten Midland Lee last Saturday, 15-14.

Rowlett improves to 2-0.
