WFAA-TV broadcasts boat dock story the day after I complain

Maybe WFAA-TV News is now reading TheRockwallNews.com!

What an interesting coincidence that just one day after I published my editorial opinion that the million dollar boat docks at The Harbor are a bad idea during such tough economic times, along comes WFAA-TV News broadcasting a story using the very same rationale that I did!

Their reporter said critics say expanding the number of boat docks now is a questionable idea, especially when the Boys & Girls Club of Rockwall is close to closing its doors for good.

Maybe I’m just giving myself too much credit and it’s sheer coincidence. Still, maybe they are watching and listening to us. Hope so!

The Rockwall Boys & Girls Club still does need about $50,000 fast!

Rockwall Boys, Girls Club at risk of closing down from lack of funds

The economic downturn has put a severe financial strain on the five-year old Rockwall Boys & Girls Club and now, if the non-profit organization is not able to raise $50,000 by the end of 2009, it will be at risk of closing its doors due to lack of funds.

According to an urgent letter sent recently to parents of the almost 500 member children, Board President J. Chris White explained that the loss of several government grants combined with the quick growth of the Club to at least 180 youth each weekday afternoon has caused a situation where the Club needs to raise $17,000 per month to be able to continue operating in October, November and December.

In the letter, White asks member families “at this time” to please make “a tax-deductible donation to the Club at whatever level they can afford.”

He explains that at the current membership level, the amount that needs to be raised equates to $125 per member child through the end of 2009.
