New restaurant, three new stores coming soon to Rockwall

Mi Cocina Mexican restaurant, Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts, HomeGoods and Maurice’s are coming soon to Rockwall.

According to a news release from the City of Rockwall, Mi Cocina is scheduled to open Dec. 1 where TGI Fridays previously was on the I- 30 south service road. It is part of the MCrowd restaurant group that includes Taco Diner and The Mercury.

Jane Taylor, Director of Design for MCrowd, said customer requests to locate in Rockwall was one of the reasons the company selected the city.

“We’re a local small-town chain restaurant in the DFW area, and we’ve noticed how fast Rockwall is growing,” she added. “We appreciate how very cooperative the city officials have been. They have gone above and beyond to accommodate us, and it’s been really good to work with them.”

HomeGoods and Jo-Ann’s will be located in Phase 2 of Rockwall Plaza (Phase 1 includes Belks and Penney’s), also located along the I-30 south service road. They are expected to open in the summer of 2011. Lease talks are continuing with several other businesses in the center.

Jo-Ann’s operates more than 745 stores in 48 states.

HomeGoods offers an eclectic mix of home fashion items from furniture and rugs to kitchen and bed and bath – all priced 20-60 percent less than department and specialty store prices.

Maurice’s, a small-town specialty shop for women, will open Oct. 20 in Phase 1 of Rockwall Plaza, next door to Justice for Girls. The two retail shops are owned by Dress Barn. Maurice’s will offer clothes ranging from size 1 to 24 along with accessories and shoes.

Announcement of several other major retailers and restaurants locating in Phase 2 of Rockwall Plaza are expected soon pending lease agreements.
