Rockwall quarterback Adam Dingwell completed 25 of 42 passes to six different receivers for 454 yards and four touchdowns as the Yellow jackets nearly pulled off a huge upset while losing to undefeated Highland Park Friday night, 49-39, at the Highlander Stadium.
Highland Park scored a touchdown on it’s first six possessions and then hung on in the second half to win, behind quarterback Luke Woodley, who completed a career high 26 of 38 passes for 416 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed for two TDS of 1 and 2 yards.
The Scots defense stopped Rockwall’s (3-6, 2-4) first drive, and then the teams traded touchdowns on the next seven drives combined.
Both teams combined for 1,089 total yards and three receivers had more than 100 yards. Rockwall’s Jarron White caught seven passes for 177 yards, Will Beasley caught eight for 112 yards and Scot Morgan Stringer caught five for 171 yards.
Rockwall did have its chances to win. The Jackets had two drives end inside the Highland Park 10-yard line.
Highland Park’s defense stopped Rockwall on fourth down at it’s own two-yard line midway through the third quarter. Matt Bonano intercepted a pass in the Highland Park end zone two possessions later.
Dingwell also barely missed connecting on a deep throw into the end zone on the final play of the first half.
The win sets up Highland Park (9-0, 6-0) for next Thursdays clash at Rockwall Heath (9-0, 6-0) that will determine the District 10-4A title.
