Final funeral arrangements have now been announced for Heath resident Bobby Graves by his family.

A viewing and visitation with his family and friends will be  Sunday, Nov. 2, from 2-4 pm, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 2500 State Hwy. 66 East, Rockwall 75087. Resthaven is just a mile or two East of Downtown Rockwall on Highway 66.

A Sunday evening viewing had been announced and posted yesterday but caused too many conflicts for family and friends coming from many locations.

The funeral will be this Monday, Nov. 3, at 10 am, at Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall. Pastor Steve Stroope is supervising the funeral services. Pastor Stroope was among the first people to visit the Graves family after the tragic news of Bobby’s death was received.

Royse City man shot and killed in Lake Pointe Church parking lot

A Royse City man was shot and killed today in the parking lot of Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall when he pulled or waved a gun at an off-duty Garland policeman who was trying to diffuse a road rage incident.

Apparently Troy Van Pool, 31, had forced a male employee of Lake Pointe to pull over into the parking lot. After quite a bit of screaming, which was witnessed by a number of adults and children, Van Pool brandished a gun and the policeman fired several shots, killing the enraged driver instantly.

The other driver was not harmed. He apparently works as a coach at the mega-church, which has a membership of over 10,000 people. It is located on the feeder road South of I-30, next to Discount Tires and the Chamber of Commerce.

According to media reports, the dead man was married, had a son, plus many relatives in the Royse City area.

Already some conflicting reports are coming in, suggesting that Van Pool must have felt threatened himself or he would never have waved a gun at the policeman.

Stay tuned for more info. The media is buzzing about this tragic incident.

Royse City man shot and killed in Rockwall after road rage incident

A Royse City man was shot and killed yesterday by an off-duty Garland policeman who was trying to diffuse a road rage incident in the parking lot of Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall.

According to police and media reports, Troy Van Pool, 31, was irate with another driver, forced him to stop in the parking lot and was screaming at him through his Ford Mustang car window when off-duty officer Brandon Hernandez approached the scene. Apparently, after the officer directed Van Pool to go on his way, Van Pool pointed a handgun at him. The policeman immediately fired several shots at Van Pool, killing him instantly. The other driver was not injured. Several adults and children witnessed the tragedy.

Police spokesman have defended the policeman’s actions, after the dead man’s family complained that the officer should have first shown his badge and identified himself. Local police interviewed said that in situations like these officers don’t have time to identify themselves.

More stories will likely appear soon in DFW media.
