Up to seven men running for Rockwall County Judge

Have recently heard that at least seven men are either already running for or soon will be campaigning for the Rockwall County Judge position, currently held by first-term incumbent Republican Chris Florance.

Among those running for the position are Florance, former Rockwall Mayor Ken Jones, who narrowly lost in the GOP primary two years ago;  columnist and retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Jerry Hogan; RISD school board member Doug Hamilton; plus American National Bank vice president and former Chamber of Commerce board president Kevin Fowler (not the Country & Western singer!).

I haven’t learned yet who the other two are. I think each of the above is campaigning as a Republican, but I still need to check with the candidates. Florance, Jones and Hogan are definitely running as members of the GOP.

Florance keeps busy presiding over court and county matters, plus owns a courier service. Jones owns radio stations KHYI 95.3 and KXEZ 92.1, which broadcasts Rockwall High School football games. Hogan is a former corporate executive with MCI Telecommunications. Hamilton is SAP Operations Manager, American Eurocopter. Fowler is currently a director of the Rockwall Economic Development Corp.

From what I know personally and from what I’ve heard from many sources, all of these men are well-respected across Rockwall and very capable. It should be an interesting campaign!

The primary election will be in March, with the general election in November.
