Royse City rallies past Mt. Pleasant, 42-38, Friday night

Scotty Arterberry’s 30-yard touchdown run with 1:24 to play capped a furious fourth-quarter comeback as Royse City rallied past Mount Pleasant, 42-38, Friday night at RCISD Stadium.

Playing without star quarterback Richard Morrison, the Bulldogs (2-1) led 21-3 at halftime, but had to rally in the fourth quarter after allowing Mt. Pleasant (2-2) to score 21 points during the third quarter to take the lead 24-21.

Arterberry rushed for three touchdowns, ran 30 times for 129 yards and completed 7 of 15 passes for 106 yards.

In a losing effort, Mt. Pleasant quarterback Terrell Howard rushed for four TDs, ran 25 times for 187 yards, plus completed 15 or 24 passes for 108 yards.

Royse City varsity cheerleaders win top honors at competition

Royse City High School’s varsity cheerleaders won top honors at the U.C.A. cheer camp competition last week at the University of North Texas in Denton.

RCHS won the championship trophy in the home dance category, the cheer category and received a Superior rating on all cheers, chants and dances learned at the camp.

They also won the Leadership award, which is voted on by the other squads at camp, according to cheer advisor, Lisa Posey.

Kambria Buentello, Autumn Landers, Lesley Latta, and Janis Mapps earned top honors as All Star cheerleaders. Varsity captain Taylor Aycox was asked to consider applying for a U.C.A. position upon graduation from RCHS.
