After undefeated and fourth-ranked Rockwall-Heath’s thrilling overtime 38-31 victory Thursday night over previously undefeated and no. 1 ranked Highland Park, will the Dallas Morning News move the Hawks to the top of the Area Class 4-A rankings?
We certainly think they deserve it, and we’re not just homeboys!
After all, Highland Park is the winningest football team in the state with 708 victories, plus they had a 47-game, regular-season winning streak and hadn’t lost in their last 45 district games.
Any team which can knock off such a football dynasty deserves the no. 1 ranking, in our opinion!
Now, no. 2-ranked Everman High School (10-0, 7-0) can certainly claim the top spot, after trouncing Granbury Friday night, 69-3.
No. 3-ranked Carter could also, after clobbering A. Maceo Smith 48-24, Thursday night.
But only the Hawks could bring down the mighty Scots. And in only their fourth year of play!
For doing so, Rockwall-Heath deserves the top ranking until somebody can beat them and prove us different.
Congratulations to Coach Mickey Moss, and the whole Hawks team and the Heath community!
