Free “Weight Off For Life” seminar scheduled in Rockwall Sept. 20

A new Rockwall weight loss center and a Dallas pharmacy owned by Rockwall residents Jim and Diane Porter are teaming up to offer a free weight loss seminar Sept. 20 in Rockwall.

Rockwall-based “Weight Off for Life” and Dallas-based Pharmacy Compounding Specialties will host a “Nutritional Intervention for Permanent Weight Loss” seminar about a weight-management program aimed at weight loss and controlling Type II diabetes, as well as other illnesses.

The event is scheduled Saturday, Sept. 20, 1-2 pm, at Rockwall Executive Center, 500 Turtle Cove Blvd., Suite 130, in Rockwall. Rockwall nurse opens weight loss, nutrition counseling business

A registered nurse and applied clinical nutritionist who lives in Rockwall has just opened a weight loss, nutrition and health counseling center in Rockwall to help area residents to lose unnecessary weight and reach optimal health called “Weight Off for Life.”

The owner, certified health coach Diane Porter RN, has been counseling clients about their nutritional and health needs for seven years at Dallas-based Pharmacy Compounding Specialties, which she jointly owns with her husband, Jim Porter R.Ph., D. Ph., a natural consultant pharmacist.

The couple’s pharmacy located near Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas attracts many Rockwall County residents, she said.

The Porters say they have counseled hundreds of clients using the weight-loss program since May 2007, and their clients have lost a total of more than 3,000 pounds. more

Royse City celebrates opening of new stadium by beating Atlanta, 35-7

Frank Dave rushed for two touchdowns and Richard Morrison threw for two more as Royse City celebrated the opening of the new Royse City ISD Stadium with a 35-7 win over Atlanta Friday night.

The game was the first for Royse City (1-0) in Class 4-A and marked the debut of Head Coach Greg Strahm.

Dave scored on a three-yard run on the opening possession and added another three-yard run in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs held a 21-0 lead at halftime.

Morrison completed 17 of 30 passes for 198 yards to eight different receivers, including a 33-yard scoring pass to Kris Smith and another for 29 yards to Justin Jacobs.

Atlanta (0-1) scored on a 78-yard run by Devin Lockhart.

The only real downside was that Royse City did have 12 penalties for 110 yards.

The Bulldogs will travel to play Wakeland Sept. 12, at 7:30 pm.

Rockwall-Heath opens season by running over Sherman, 43-27

Rockwall-Heath’s highly-touted running back Kendial Lawrence ran for 190 yards and scored five touchdowns, including a 97-yard kickoff return, to lead the Hawks (1-0) past Sherman (1-1), 43-27, at Rockwall’s Wilkerson-Sanders stadium Sept. 5.

In the second quarter alone, Lawrence scored four touchdowns, on runs of 76, 20 and 4 yards, plus his return.

By the end of the third quarter, the Hawks held a 43-14 lead.

Hawks’ Quarterback Drew Hollingshead also threw for one touchdown, a 63 yard pass to Matt Bielski. He completed eight of thirteen passes for 133 yards.

Sherman’s running back Wayman James ran for 110 yards and scored twice.  Zac Whitfield also ran back a  kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown.

RHHS plays their first away game of the season Sept. 12, at 7:30 pm, at Arlington Seguin, which lost its opening game to Wylie Sept. 5, 52-13.

Rowlett wins “Battle of the Bridge” by beating Rockwall, 24-16

Running back Dexter Imade rushed for 210 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half to lead Rowlett to a 24-16 win over neighboring Rockwall Sept. 4, in what had been billed as the “Battle of the Bridge.”

After rushing for 19 yards in the first half, Imade broke free for a 67-yard touchdown run that gave Rowlett (2-0) a 17-8 lead to start the third quarter. Imade later added another score with a 59-yard run.

Rockwall (1-1) came back in the fourth quarter when a 50-yard reception from Luke Wardell set up Josh Broach’s two-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Adam Dingwell ran for the two-point conversion.

With 1:48 left in the game, Rockwall had the ball on its own 23-yard line and got a first down before defensive end Nick Nanez stripped the ball from Dingwell, which defensive tackle Marcus Hawkins recovered.

Dingwell completed 14 of 24 passes for 153 yards and rushed 16 times for 39 yards. Josh Broach ran 13 times for 52 yards.

The Yellow Jackets will play their first home game of the season Sept. 12 at 7:30 pm at Rockwall vs. powerhouse Allen High School.
